What Is The ACTION TORONTO Quality Program Award?

The Action Toronto Award is a program developed by the Greater Toronto Council to help Section Scouters plan quality programs which achieve Scouts Canada Program Standards. The Award is recognition by the Council that a Section has achieved this standard.

Any Colony, Pack, Troop, or Company within the Greater Toronto Council may participate in the award program. By meeting the requirements of the award you will provide a well-balanced and active program for your Section. The Action Toronto Award is available in Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels... Bronze is a good goal for a Section just joining the program, Silver for the established Section, and Gold for the one that wants to reach for the top! This award program provides you, the Scouters, and the youth in your Section the opportunity to work as a team to develop a great program and have your efforts rewarded.

The Council will present each successful Section an Award Certificate and a large display crest. You may purchase smaller crests for each Section member which may be worn with uniform for the year.

How Can You and ACTION TORONTO Bring On The Excellence?

1. Ask your Group Commissioner to get you the “Action Toronto Award Worksheet and Application Form” and discuss it with your team and youth. You can also get the form from the Scout Administration Centre or from the Council web site. A good time to start is now!
2. Read the requirements for the three levels of award. Decide as a team the level you believe your Section can achieve.
3. Use the Worksheet to draft your plan including the required program elements of the selected level. Include Group, Area, or Council activities that will help you achieve your goal.
4. Discuss your plan with your Group Commissioner to make sure any resources and support you need will be available.
5. Work together with your youth and Section Leaders to develop short-term and meeting plans in detail.
6. Use the Achievement Record Form to check off each item as you achieve it. This will visually record and show your progress toward your goal.
7. When you have completed all requirements for the chosen level, fill in the required information on the front of the form and take the completed form to your Group Commissioner who will verify your information and recommend approval by the Area Commissioner. The submission deadline is June 30 each year.
8. You will receive your award from your Area Commissioner in September or October.

Scouters
You didn’t join Scouting in order to deliver anything less than a quality program. You want your youth members to have great Scouting experiences. At the very least you should be operating and delivering a program which meets Scouts Canada standards, and that qualifies you for the Bronze level award - why not get it? Many of you are running programs well above the standard - why not be rewarded?

Group Commissioners

The Action Toronto Award is a great tool for honing the effectiveness of your leadership teams and for determining where they require your support or resources. Use of the Action Toronto Award provides everyone with a common base of expectation and measurement. Scouters know what is expected of them; the plan is clear; the areas for support and resource are known; Scouts Canada standards are met; quality program is assured.
