Wood
Badge Part II provides training on the Scouting
method, outdoor skills and planning procedures to
help leaders increase the challenge level of their
program. Topics provide Information and skills at an
advanced level on leadership, goal setting, program
planning, communicating with youth, and provides
actual experiential practices in an outdoor setting.
Successful completion of this course entitles a
leader to wear the Gilwell necker, the two wooden
beads. The course is about 40 hours delivered in
modules in a variety of formats which includes at
least one outdoor weekend.
Prerequisite: Wood
Badge Part I, preferably with at least one year
leadership experience. |

Fundamentals of Scouting
This is a mandatory session for all new volunteer leaders.
The session introduces Scouting and gives information on
policies, standards and expectations of volunteers working
with youth including Duty of Care, safety and risk
management. All leaders benefit from understanding Scouting
in Canada, how it works, and who to contact with questions.
It may be taken separately, or as part of a Wood Badge Part
I course.
E-learning As an option, you can complete
Fundamentals through an E-learning course at the Scouts
Canada website,
http://www.scouts.ca/elearn/ You will need to set
up an account to start. Each of the following E-learning
topics have to be completed to satisfy the requirements and
print off the
Module 1 - Wood Badge Part I
certificate.
The topics are: Orientation, Structure, Mission, Risk
Management and Spirituality. Once a topic has been
completed, print out the corresponding certificate.

Wood Badge Part I This course helps leaders develop
basic leadership skills so they can deliver a quality
program. Topics include: program elements, program planning,
ideas for games, crafts, songs and other activities,
practice of Scouting methodology, outdoor safety and more.
The course is offered in modules in several formats,
including weeknights, weekends and other combinations.

Wood Badge Part II This
course is for Scouters who want to increase their knowledge,
skills and attitudes in order to be able to motivate and
lead in the delivery of a quality program. The focus is on
program planning, outdoor skills for challenging activities,
and communicating with and leading other adults at an
advanced level.

Standard First Aid
This course is taught using the
Toronto EMS First Aid/CPR program recognized by the
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), as well as the
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. Scouts Canada
recognizes this course as equivalent to St. John Ambulance
and the Red Cross when meeting badge and training
requirements.

- Specialized Courses and Workshops
Examples of workshop topics include: outdoor skills, cooking,
songs, games, crafts, youth with special needs, water activities
and diversity.

- Group Commissioner Wood Badge This course helps
Group Commissioners and other members of the group committee
meet the expectations for servicing and supporting their
group leadership team. The training focus is on roles and
responsibilities, program support, service to leaders and
group management.
